This iconic Wyoming landscape was painted in honor of the Wyoming Outdoor Council's work to protect Wyoming’s wild lands and natural beauty. Virginia often begins her paintings working on location "en plein air," infusing her intimate knowledge of Wyoming's wild lands into her creative process. She then uses these studies to develop larger works in the studio. The Union Pass area near Dubois was the inspiration for this painting, which features the red rock cliffs reflected in the Wind River. Virginia has exhibited her work extensively throughout Wyoming including Lander, Pinedale, Jackson, Rock Springs, Casper, and Riverton as well as in Alberta, Canada. In winter 2017 Virginia was an Artist in Residence at Jentel Artist Residency near Sheridan where she developed a series of aerial landscape paintings. This spring, Virginia created a 6 x 30 foot mural depicting the habitat of the greater sage grouse through the four seasons for a traveling art exhibit by AtLas (At Lander Art and Sciences). Also this spring, Virginia taught plein air painting for a James Madison University Study Abroad program in southern France. In February, Virginia won the Juror's Choice Award at the Governor's Capitol Art Exhibition held at the Wyoming State Museum in Cheyenne. In addition to painting, Virginia is a documentary filmmaker with the Lander based production company The Content Lab. Painting size 40 x 26 inches.
