This book is an intermediate reader of Renaissance Latin, which I co-edited with a group of students several years ago. As a little background: in the 1460s Pope Paul II arrested a prominent group of humanists on charges of conspiracy and heresy. They were imprisoned in Castel Sant'Angelo and tortured before ultimately being released. One of those humanists, Bartolomeo Platina, later wrote a "Life of Paul II" which he used to defend himself and humanism-- and to settle some scores with Paul II.
This book is an edition of Platina's "Life of Paul II" with grammatical and historical commentary. If you're interested in Latin and the Renaissance, it's a great place to start.
For the winning bid, I'll inscribe the edition with my favorite of Platina's calumnies, several of which he had written and then crossed out in the earliest manuscript of the work.
