In vintages such as 2017 where rainfall totals break historic records, the vines abound with energy and the shoots reach skyward early in the growing season. This vine energy must be tempered by warmer temperatures for the shoots to slow their growth by mid-summer, or the fruit maturity can suffer. Lucky for Napa Valley, August gave us warmer temperatures that served the purpose perfectly.

The 2017 Inspirado is a tribute to this season of abundant rainfall and abundant summer sunlight. The bright cherry and blueberry notes balanced by a touch of sweet tobacco show the distinctive aromas of the Napa Cabernet and Merlot in the blend, and the sweet earthy note beneath the fruit aromas tells the story of the Petit Verdot. At entry, the texture is full, rich, and seamless, in part due to the Cabernet Franc which adds weight and a rich texture to the blend. Collectively, this cohesive, very approachable blend captures the complexity of the season as well as of the varietals.
