Description

Canvas, embroidery thread, ceramic and horseshoe nails.
A single horse is suspended in a landscape created by torn canvas sewn back together. The stitch work pays honor to the female dominated craft of quilting that brought warmth to a home. The ceramic horse with horseshoe nail legs is an ode to the wild horses etched into the landscapes of the west.
Horses in Suspension was born out of the chaos climate change has wrought on the world. The large open skies and forever landscapes of yellow grass torn and sewn together, depict the fractured ecosystems. The mending, or quilting the pieces, shows human's immense creativity to pick up pieces, heal, and overcome our weaknesses and wrong doings. The suspended ceramic horses with horseshoe nail legs hanging from the skies wait for us to shift our behaviors, reduce our CO2 emissions to relieve the stress of climate change on the landscapes we call home.
