Facing East (1970): text by James Michener and prints by Jack Levine. This is a First Edition, copy 2378/2500.
- Folded sheets and plates laid loose in portfolios; plates in the sketchbook are interleaved. Illustrations include four original lithographs printed by Bank Street Atelier, New York, original woodcuts and an "hors-texte" woodcut printed by Fequet et Baudier, Paris. The "sketchbook" comprises 54 watercolors, gouaches, and drawings printed by phototypie and pochoir processes by Daniel Jacomet, Paris.
- "The 2500 de luxe portfolios of this limited edition, numbered 1 to 2500, were individually signed by the author and the artist. In addition, sixteen portfolios marked from A to P are the property of the author and the artist. Several portfolios marked H.C. were printed for the publishers and their collaborators ... This edition printed in New York and Paris" Portfolio I, p. [xxxiii] and [xxxv].
- The case and first portfolio are fashioned of white-silk-covered boards and fastened with wide, limp black-leather ties. The second portfolio is limp black leather.
